Wednesday 24 February 2010 Final Budget Sharon Romilly on Wednesday 24 February 2010 - 21:55:35 | Read/Post Comment: 0 What's been revised?
The CRF assessment is now prominently displayed so that it is clear how much it is and that it is part of the total fee.
The Masters group had some money being allocated to regatta expenses. Those have been removed, as Masters pays all the regatta expenses on their own.
Also remember Masters and Rec Rowers will not pay a 'sweeps' fee this year. It is included in the program cost.
As a part of the WRRA Charter, the club agrees to pay Head of the Charles entry fees, which is represented by the $1000 in the regatta fees in the 'general' column.
Finally, there is a table below the budget which shows what you will pay for any program or a combination of programs if you choose to go that route. You can see the progression of fees from the first draft we put out (v.1) through the current draft (v.3). The amounts in bold are PRE-TAX. To the right you will see a comparison of this year's program fees to last year's, this year's total INCLUDING sales tax (which rowers will pay at check-out on ActiveNet), another comparison to last year's totals including sales tax, and finally each programs change in fees, and those changes expressed as a percentage.
As always, if you have any questions, please let any one of us on the Board, or Kathy Whitford know and we would be happy to answer them.
Also, please attend the meeting on Saturday to get all your questions answered.
Thanks Jeff Scheid WRRA Board President
Thursday 21 January 2010 Hammer Ergatta Sharon Romilly on Thursday 21 January 2010 - 15:47:36 | Read/Post Comment: 0 It’s Hammer-Time . . . . . . Get ready to have some fun on an erg!
The ‘Hammer’ ergatta will be held at the St. Ignatius Murphy Field House on Sunday, February 21, 2010. Matt Previts’ generous offer of the use of St. Ignatius facilities will allow us to put on rewarding, entertaining, and competitive event that encourages local and out-of-town participation.
As much as the ‘Hammer’ will be an exciting athletic competition, it will also be a fundraiser for the Rivergate Park Boathouse campaign http://www.clevelandrows.org/rivergate_park.php. All proceeds from “The Hammer’ will go to this unique recreational facility that the PD’s architecture critic, Steve Litt, said ‘is an absolute no brainer . . . . It deserves quick and enthusiastic community support’.
Race director Jim Ridge is in the process of working with individuals to contact high school and college rowing teams from the northern Ohio region as well as invite teams and masters rowers from Toledo, Columbus, and Pittsburgh. He is also working with the local Crossfit CLE chapter to actively encourage the involvement of all Crossfit CLE members to compete in ‘The Hammer’.
We currently have an erg training session (led by Justin Kershaw) for Crossfit CLE members scheduled for Saturday January 30. It’s Jim's expectation this event will serve as a springboard for non-rower participation in ‘The Hammer’. Jim is also asking Crossfit CLE to network with nine other Crossfit locations such as Lakewood, Middleburgh Heights, and Hudson to drive additional participation.
Jim expects over 300 competitors at this year's ‘Hammer’ and he encourages the local rowing community to actively support and participate in this event.
Regatta Central registration for ‘The Hammer’ will be up shortly, while CRF website and CRF Facebook ‘Hammer’ pages will be up sometime early next week.
If you would like to assist with event planning or promotion or if you have contacts with companies who would be interested in sponsoring this unique event, please e-mail Jim at jim.ridge3@gmail.com or call him on his cell at 216-496-3763.

Tuesday 10 November 2009 WRRA Annual Meeting Eric Romilly on Tuesday 10 November 2009 - 01:52:10 | Read/Post Comment: 0 The WRRA annual meeting was Saturday. WRRA members elected the following new board members: Justin Kershaw
Craig Gates Chys Kozak D D Meakin
The new members will join Emily Shurilla, Jeff Scheid and Jeff Renston who remain on the board. Great thanks to the current board as well as Sheila Nowacki, Janet Clark, Jim Mack and Michelle Gallagher who stepped down after 2 years of service on the board
We are very lucky to have a knowledgeable, capable board of directors to lead WRRA over the next few years. There are many challenges ahead as we work to establish structures that help our current programs to grow and expand as well as assure the continuing presence of a strong rowing community in Cleveland. We know the board is up to the challenge and we as members need to give them the support and help they need to guide WRRA forward. Kathy

The 45th Head of the Charles Regatta was held in Cambridge, MA on Sat. Oct. 17th and Sun. Oct. 18th with weather that ranged from sunshine and majestic fall colors to cold, wet, wind and snow the size of bow balls. Over 300,000 spectators and 8500 competitors from 19 different countries were present. Cleveland was well represented with WRRA and CRF entries.

They were Bow # 22 in a field of 23 entries, including an all Italian crew and the 1984 Silver Medal US Women's Olympic 8 squad. By the 4th bridge, the Women's 8 had passed three other shells and were bearing down on a fourth but were blocked from passing which later resulted in a penalty for the crew that failed to yield. They finished with the 11th best time at 19:32.411 and were given an invitation to return next year. Shown below are the members of this crew: Patrick Whitacker (cox), Anna Chanakas (B), Mary Ryan (2), Sheila Nowacki (3), Sara Mierke (4), Janet Clark (5), Eileen Gordon (6), Zita Varnelis (7) and Sharon Romilly (8).

The Club Men's 4 had two entries from Cleveland. The CRF boat with Chrys Kozak coxing, and Paul Kopp, Bill Rickman, Gavin Farrell and Charliee Grizmacher finished 40 out of 55 with a time of 19:14.912.
